Yep, not only a firmware update that gives us the option, but one that disables the feature by default so we don't have to keep turning it off every time the modem reboots or we have an internet outage.

 

Also, though I sent a message about this, I request that the public wifi hotspot be disabled on my modem today as well.

Public hotspot is back on, and once again my VPN is experiencing instability.

This Public wifi changes state without power cycling the modem. I purchased a backup power supply and connected the gateway to it, but the hot spot is on again, please help me and turn it off. I have phone service with comcast, and my conversation is affected by the lack of bandwidth.

the codec used by comcast phone service is probably ulaw, this codec takes a lot of bandwith, is it posible to request one's service codec to be switched to ILBC? I have very good conversations on ILBC on a much slower DSL line. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Low_Bitrate_Codec

Last time I requested it off over the phone I had a hard time convincing the support person that he not I had to turn off the PUBLIC WIFI.

This is not the solution. Comcast Biz class DPC3939B gateways are provisioned with a locked down firmware that does not expose the ability to turn off the xfinitiwifi hotpspot, among many other limitations.This is rediculous. I feel like sueing comcast.
