Missing my SharePoint Online link!
I too created my account with an e-mail address I already had and was having the same issue with the create sharepoint link not appearing as it should. I fixed it by going to the e-mail tab and clicking on "assign" next to the e-mail that I used to create the account. I then created an e-mail with the domain I created with my account. After that the link to create a sharepoint site appeared as it should on both the internet tab and the e-mail tab.
I'm just shareing here in case anyone else has this problem. I've spent days going in circles on this. I think the root cause is that in the instructions for setting up a sharepoint, it failes to mention the prerequisites that are required before you can create a sharepoint. Many businesses like mine already have a website and don't need or want the one that comes from Comcast, but might want to use the sharepoint services.
