Does removing all static IPs & changing to customer-owned modem require a tech visit?

?

I plan on returning the current rental modem.

Hey train_wreck, hope all is well,

A Customer Owned Modem (COM) does not typically required any techician visit. This is due to Comcast Agents being able to replace the Comcast Leased Modem (CLM) with a COM and customer must supply a supported COM Make, Model, MAC address and serial number. So with this COM information the customer's account biller equipment can be changed or replaced, provision with the correct internet level speed boot file, etc.

The customer does have the option to drop off the CLM at their nearest Comcast Service Center or have a technician pick it up to not continue to be charged the Equipment Serviceabiliity and Maintainability Lease Fee (ESMLF). However, if a customer does have bundled Comcast Telephone Service (CTS), then the ESMLF will still continue to be charged. Also, if the customer has any hardware, firmware, or configuration issues with the COM, customer will need to contact the manufacturer's technical support. Comcast agents can only reset the COM and insure that the provisioning bootfile is transmitted to the COM correctly.

The single ESMLF is partially the maintainability and serviceability fee for all customer premise Comcast equipment and coax wiring which is fully handled at the customer's location at no charge whatsoever. This covers all equipment including Internet Modem, Telephone Modem, TV SD and HD Cable boxes, MDTAs, et al.

Hope this helps you out.
