Turn off Xfinity Wifi Hotspot

I would like to turn off or disable the Xfinity Wifi (public) hotspot. I've seen other messages and threads asking for this with no real answer or solution. One answer only gave the instrutions to turn off the "private" wifi and there is no option in the account settings to turn of the public hotspot.

How can this be done? I have no use or need to provide this in my area.

Just so everyone knows this junk comes back if you change your tier of service.  I had to contact a second time after it was turned off because we changed service tier and it automagically turned itself back on.  So if you change your service at all be sure to check what wifi is broadcasting and ask someone to turn it off if you don't want it.

It's pointless to even PM someone to turn this off.  It comes back if service is interrupted, you change tiers, whatever.  I do not like having this and I *need* a method to turn it off myself.

I have had the same problem with one client in particular that happens to be a church.  I watched with a wifi analyzer that when the xfinitywifi ssid showed up it took out my clients wireless.  I reconneced my client computers to their wireless network and continured to analyze what was going on.  Again as soon as the xfinitywifi showed up it dropped my clients wireless.

I just got off the phone with Comcast and they did turn it off, but she said that if the modem get rebooted or reset, it will be turned back on.  this has caused my clients many problems and now that I know and have verified it is the comcast xfinitywifi, I may look into a class action suit.   My client have been unknowingly been supplying people with the internet on their dime and has caused them problems.  If you of you that have been affected by this and or your clients you may want to consider the suit against them.  I like comcast but this is wrong and they never informed me or my client that they were doing this.

Gotta say, I hope some higher-ups at Comcast are aware/monitoring this; you guys need to have this setting stick, certainly across a simple modem reboot, and by NO means should it be "silently" re-enabled, as I have witnessed with some of our clients' gateways. I realize there is a vested business interest for Comcast to have as many of these "xfinitywifi" hotspots available, but for many businesses this is a security risk that they may not want (and according to some busines industry / cyber-security compliance programs, MUST NOT have enabled.)  The least you could do for your business-class customers is give them the benefit of letting them turn it off and keep it off.  I am hopeful that future revisions to the gateway firmwares will rectify this issue.

Thank you.

Is it at least posible to drop a connection from the hotspot? I did not find a way.

Someone is now connected to my hotspot that seems to be doing something other than browsing because one of my servers is logging martian messages from the gateway.

please anyone at support: turn this off for me again. thank you

For the life of me I cannot understand why Comcast has given Residential customers the ability to disable this feature and not business customers.

Residential:

http://wifi.comcast.com/faqs.html

"We encourage all subscribers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of XFINITY WiFi, but you will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY WiFi feature on your Wireless Gateway. Visit My Account at https://customer.comcast.com/, click on “Users & Preferences” and then select “Manage XFINITY WiFi” or call 1-800-XFINITY."

vs Business: (no ability to disable feature, must call or message)

https://businessclass.comcast.net/Secure/ManageServices/ManageInternet/

Indeed, Business customers can turn off their own wifi, but not the public hotspot:

http://businesshelp.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/comcast-business-online-account-private-wifi-settings/

Come on, Comcast. We want more control over this, not less.

best regards

@note: @support: please turn off again, thanks

Yep, not only a firmware update that gives us the option, but one that disables the feature by default so we don't have to keep turning it off every time the modem reboots or we have an internet outage.

Also, though I sent a message about this, I request that the public wifi hotspot be disabled on my modem today as well.

I am so frustrated with the fact that you can't turn this Public WIFI off, I called and had them turn it off and it came back on with out a reboot.

They need to release an update so we can do this ourselves!

I concur with everyone here. I am also a Comcast business user, and I want to shut off of public WIFI due to the fact that DAILY, I walk out my front door and I have a group of kids standing at the corner of our building, sucking off the WIFI signal. They are not doing anything but downloading porn and sending crap back and forth to their friends.

We do not have a public lobby or sitting area for customers since we are not a retail business. I would like a firmware update so I can kill this public WIFI once and for all. I pay for it and I am not interested in providing public WIFI to everyone. If Comcast wants me to supply WIFI, let Comcast pay me every month.
