port forwarding with static ip and CG3000 gateway w/WNDR4500 netgear router

I know there are many topics on the forum about port forwarding but none of them seemed to quite fit so here goes. First I am not any sort of certified IT specialist, I probably know just enough to get myself into trouble. I help out a friend at their business with the computers and most of their network needs. First the equipment. Comcast CG3000 gateway, a netgear WNDR4500 router. We run a webcam server for customers from one of the machines on the network. The IP for that machine is 192.168.1.105 using port 8090. I have a forwarding rule setup on the netgear for port 8090 to the 192.168.1.105. We just recently had the acct changed to a static IP. That is where the trouble started. Prior to getting our static IP I had managed to get forwarding setup from the Comcast gateway, to the Netgear router and then to the webcam server. The Comcast gateway is 10.1.10.1 which sets the input IP for the Netgear router at 10.1.10.11. After the static IP was setup the entire network has internet access but my port forwarding is non functional. Apparently when Comcast reconfigured the gateway for the static IP it did away with my previous settings. I went in a setup what I thought was a good rule for forwarding port 8090 on to the 10.1.10.11 address for the Netgear router but I still cannot see the webcam server from outside. The email we received about the static IP listed two different addresses. X.X.X.29 and X.X.X.30. When I check with whatismyip it returns the X.X.X.30 address. I am sure there is some little setting I am missing but I am having no luck so far. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully all the above makes sense!

HI L.Vevig.  I checked the firewall rules and all are correct.  Also I am able to view the webcam on port# 8090 using the gateway IP address of  X.X.X.30

To use the routeable IP address, X.X.X.29 you can sest up a 1 to 1 NAT rule that points the IP of your WNDR4500.

Please note it is not possible to view the webcams using the gateway IP of X.X.X.30 from inside your network, you must make the connection from an external network.

Hello LVevig,

Another possible solution you may consider is making absolutely sure your Static.IP.Routeable.Address device port 8090 is definitively open in the NetGear3000 (NG3K). Try this and let us know how it worked for you:

1. Log into the NG3K using a browser 10.1.10.1, username=cusadmin, password=highspeed.

2. Click on Firewall link, then click on the checkmark box next to disable True Static IP Firewall, click apply to enable this.

3. Next click on Port Configration, then click "True Static IP Port Management" link.

4. Make sure the drop-down menu item "Block All Ports With The Following Exceptions" is selected. This is the most secure means to ONLY open the port(s) on any Static IP device that you need especially for remote access.

5. Now click the add button and type is something similar to this:

    DVR1  8090 8090  8090 8090  Static.IP.Routeable.Address (This is your WNDR4500 Static IP Routable Address)

6. then enable and apply

This will insure that your WNDR4500 device port 8090 can be accessed from the Internet. Your should also make sure your  WNDR4500 WAN Static IP Routable Address is configured correctly by successfully pinging this address from the Internet, just to make sure.

Hope this helps you out.
