PCI compliance failed due to SNMP on port 161. Want to correct if possible.

PCI Compliance network scan failing with following results. Looked through the comcast gateway settings and it does not appear to have this port open. Not sure exactly how to look at the modem itself.

Can I turn off SNMP on the gateway/router or modem and/or block port 161 to comply with PCI requirements? Will doing that affect service from Comcast or affect my LAN?

Hardware: Arris Cable ModemTM604G/CT & Netgear Cable Modem Gateway CG3000DCR

Results: Failed due to Protocol UDP on PORT 161, Remote Access Software: SNMP (it also claims SNMP is v1)

Gateway IP 67.187.79.119

Thank you.

Hello Case and welcome,

Comcast Modems, or any other modems within the industry are not  Ecommerce PCI Compliant.  The PCI Compliancy Standard focuses on actual devices, like computers, Point Of Sale (POS) Systems, etc that are used within the business processing environment. So this means that the actual applications being used must have  UPD Port 61 not open. As you know, one of the major aspect is that you should not be saving customer credit card information and this can ONLY be done on a POS system, etc.

Hope this helps you out.
