Comcast Business Contract Renewal - Customer-Owned Equipment

In 2020 I contracted with Comcast for a package called Business Internet 500, and I have been able to use my own modem (a Netgear CM1000) for Internet service (no other services). As the contract was nearing expiration, I called and spoke with a sales representative. He told me that Comcast Business is not offering any new contracts that would allow me to bring my own equipment and I ended the call. Was what he told me accurate?

Hello, @ComcastCACustomer, thanks for being a valued Comcast Business customer and for posting your question. When it comes to Comcast Business sales you have to call us at 1-800-391-3000. You have to work with our sales team directly to get that exact answer. I know you have already called so I would try them again when you have a chance. You can always use your own modem but they would need to provide clarification about any available service options. There's a chance the offers they had available were only for new subscriptions.

@ComcastCACustomer Were you able to get a solution?

I'm in a similar boat; I have a customer owned modem (and I recently upgraded it too, so I want to keep using it!) and when I called in to upgrade my speed they couldn't give me ANY deals unless I use a rented modem. This was a few weeks ago, and now that I see someone else in the same boat I wonder if there's a solution here.

I do NOT want to use a rented gateway; I want to keep using my excellent Arris S33 that I paid $200 for. I also have to get this sorted out before my current contract ends and my MRC returns to rate card which is over twice what I'm paying now, a few months from now.

This whole mess makes me want to jump over to residential for my home office, but I really want to avoid it if possible.

Any updates on this?  I was thinking of updating my modem and looking for a compatibility list.  I have my own security equipment and was forced to take Comcast security as part of my new contract last year.  Once they found out I had my own modem, they said they could not implement their security on it so it was a blessing.  I like being able to see my logs and have management of the device.

@NetNeutrality Nope, I jumped ship to residential. I was really sad to have to do it, but they wouldn't give me any other options at all. Xfinity, even with the $30 unlimited data fee, comes out to about half as much per month as the same speed on the business side if I want to use my own hardware.

They seem to be really hostile to the idea of using our own modems now. I don't get it; don't they realize home office customers tend to have special needs for Internet and are more likely to want to use their own hardware? I understand having to pay a bit more than residential, but not over twice as much.

Same here - I have been using Comcast Business for my home office with my own modem since 2010, I have upgraded over the years to higher tiers since I deal with a lot of video downloads and uploads and was always able to get great deals for 2 - 3 years contracts, my contract was up in few months called and they said sorry if you use your own modem you will have to pay full price and there are no deals.

@SpottedCat You're lucky you had the option to switch to residential. I have a storefront and cannot get residential service. I think the business service is grossly overpriced with no advantages at all for a small business.
