Closing port 23

We are a liquor store and  accept credit cards on a POS system. We are subject to something called PCI compliance audits every 30 days.  Part of the audit requires a port scan of our IP address from an external site for potential vulnerability.

We have been failing audits because Port 23 (telnet) is open on our SMCD3G modem.  I have set blocking rules but the port remains open.  I'm being fined monthy for failing the audit so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Josh5805 and welcome,

The PCI Compliance is on your POS system(s). You must make sure that telnet port 23 feature/function is disable within your POS system. The Comcast Gateways are not PCI Compliant, but ports can be disabled or turned off.

Hope this helps you out.

How do I disable incoming traffic on Port 23?  I've blocked outgoing traffic already.
