401 Unauthorized!

Hi,
I am logged to my DPC3941B router. I go to Managed Devices under Device Control Management where I have three devices blocked. When I try to delete any of the three devices by clicking on X button I get this message:

{"error":"warn","message":"401 Unauthorized!","data":""}

Is there a problem with my router?

Any help appreciated.

Hello mozartguy,

Please powercycle the modem by unplugging the power for about 10 seconds then re-connect it. I also re-commend clearing your cache and cookies after reboot. If it's still not working please let us know.

I'm having the same issue.  I cut the power for 10+ seconds.  Logged back in with Chrome (never used on this laptop), same problem.

Mine has been doing this for a while. Also noticed that on my port forwarding page it doesn't list everything, almost like something in the configuratino is corrupt. Also doesn't list all devices on the device manager, some actually stopped showing the device name as the host name and show the mac address even though they're Windows based so they SHOULD be showing the hostname of the PC.

Yes I'm getting the same error. Not only that but the "Managed Devices page" actually shows the same device twince (for some reason the MAC addresses are case sensitive {sigh}).

The software in the modem should absolutely have been able to determine that these are the same device. Really poor.

This is the error after clicking the "X" button, and approving the delete

Is there a firmware upgrade and can it be pushed to my modem?

Also the typical response of "power down for 10 seconds" makes no difference at all. Despite knowing this is the catch-all for "I have no clue what it wrong", I tried it anyway.

Can somebody please inform whoever codes the firmware/software for the modem that they have a bug that kind of renders it difficult to use

OK I have found a solution.

In order to be able to delete device from the blocked list, the machine that the request is coming from must be a trusted device. This may not be the end decive, but the device the connected directly to the modem (e.g. if the computer using the browser is connected to the modem via a router, then the router needs to be the trusted device).

To add a trusted device, go to "Device Control Management" -> "Managed Services". Now enable manage services and select the device that you need to be trusted.

Now you should be able to delete the blocked device. After you're done you can remove the device as trusted and disable the Managed Services.

I tried your method and still get the error.  This is very annoying.

I've done that multiple times and this problem is everywhere in this router / firmware. I am unable to edit almost ALL settings:

  1. Can't disable IPv4 DHCP / change Assign DNS Manually.
  2. WiFi control list -  unable to edit or set any options.
  3. Can't change firewall settings / all of them!
  4. Can't disable IPv6 Stateful
  5. Can't edit Trusted Computer settings, managed sites, blocked keywords/sites
  6. Can't edit Blocked Services
  7. Can't edit Blocked Devices
  8. Can't edit Port forwarding settings. I can turn it on but can't add / remove items.
  9. Can't edit port triggering settings.  I can tru it on but can't add / remove items.
  10. Can't edit port  management settings. see 8, 9
  11. Can't edit Remote Management settings.
  12. Can't edit DMZ settings.
  13. Can't edit static routing.
  14. Can't edit Dynamic DNS settings. I can trun it on but can't add / remove devices.

I have the same problem and Comcast Tech Support is useless. Was told a Tier 2 specialist would call me back after wasting an hour on the phone.

Was a fix for this ever issued or announced?

I've been having this exact issue for a while now -- I originally ignored it because everything was still working as needed -- but now the issue is causing some services to not work because I can't make changes in some certain menus that I now need to make changes in.

Thanks
