What is a PTR (pointer) record?

A pointer record* resolves an IP-address to a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

Why use a PTR?  Some companies use this as part of their security protocol.

A pointer record’s main use is to check whether a server name matches/associates with the IP address from where the connection was initialized.

To request a PTR record customer has to either contact our technical support team or send the following information to a moderator at the Comcast Business forum community.

1. Full Name
2. Account Number
3. DNS Entry 
   1. EX: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx  àmydomain.com.
