VPN

Hello,

I'm trying to help my church. Our property exists on both sides of the street, so we have a VPN connecting both sides. I recently was looking into switching from our CIX phone system to a VOIP system, and the VOIP company said we would have problems with our current system because we're double NAT'd (the VPN router is connected to the comcast modem/router.) Because of the VPN, we also have a static IP. I tried putting the modem into "advanced bridge mode" last night, but that took us completely off line. I didn't have time to try the basic bridge mode. That's the plan for tonight. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? The VPN is a Cisco RV260.

- If I put the modem in basic bridge mode, should I change the static IP of the VPN to what the static IP of the modem was?

- Is there a way to keep the VPNs connected reliably without using a static IP?

Thank you!
Paul

Hi there, @user_fae60f.
To keep VPNs connected reliably you would need them to have a static IP address. If they are set up dynamically, when the address changes, you would have to go into your configuration and update the address for the VPN each time.

Can I set the modem to bridge mode and still use the static IP? Would I use the static IP currently assigned to the VPN, or should I set the VPN to the modem's current IP (which wouldn't be needed by the modem if it was in basic bridge mode, right?)

That's a great question, @user_fae60f! You should still be able to use static IP while in bridge mode. Were you planning to use a separate router in your configuration?

Yes, our VPN router is a Cisco RV260. It has a static IP. Should I use the static IP that it already has, or should I change it to the static IP that the modem/router uses?

@user_fae60f Do you pay for a static IP through us? Is this for a business account?

Yes, this is a business account. The church pays for the static IP.
