Domain Name and Static IP

I've had a static IP and a domain name with Comcast for years.  Earlier this week I physically moved the server, had to set up a new Comcast account, and had to get a new static IP number.

After nearly five days, my domain name is still not functioning, and every morning Comcast gives me a new reason and a new ticket number.  In fact, it seems, Comcast "resolves" each of my calls every morning, so that nothing at all happens at Comcast's end between my morning phone calls.

Two questions.

1: what might be preventing Comcast from fixing the problem that the domain name I've carried with them for years can't be pointed to a new IP number?

2: what do I need to say to Comcast in the morning to get them to escalate the problem to someone who will fix it, rather than marking the matter as "resolved" and telling me to wait for 24 hours?

Thanks.

Yes, I have reprogrammed my server to use the new static IP with its new hardware in its new location. This is a server that uses a static IP number to make a battery of web sites available.

After nearly a week, Comcast has proven still unable or unwilling to set up DNS properly so that the domain name I've been using for years will point to this new static IP number. As of this morning, I'm still looking for some way to get Comcast to resolve this problem before marking the problem as resolved.

The problem is not complicated: the domain name does not work. I am completely bewildered as to how many people, how many levels of people, at Comcast can mark this matter as resolved. Clearly, none of them actually perform the simplest test, which involves typing the domain name into a browser to see if it works.

How do I get Comcast—after a week of this, now—to assign someone to this problem who will simply work on it until it's fixed, and then (only then) mark the matter as 'resolved'?

Hello fatsodoctor and welcome,

Please see my responses/comments to your specific inquires below. Thanx

"Earlier this week I physically moved the server, had to set up a new Comcast account, and had to get a new static IP number."

Okay, so if you moved your server to a new location with a new Comcast Gateway (CG) and new StaticIP, then you MUST reprogram your Server's network configuration to be able to connect to the new StaticIP address. You cannot just plug your server into another CG with a different StaticIP and expect it to work at all. The main reason for this is the new CG staticIP Gateway address does not support your old CG StaticIP gateway address.

" 1: what might be preventing Comcast from fixing the problem that the domain name I've carried with them for years can't be pointed to a new IP number?  "

Perhaps I may be misconstruing your meaning of " domain name with Comcast for years. , so please clarify below:

a.) So you have a Domain that was added to the Comcast Business Class Portal so that your email on this Domain can be processed under the Comcast umbrella?

b.) Or by Domain you mean this is a server that uses a Comcast StaticIP address for website, etc.?

I believe if you can clarify some of the above, either we can help you here or you will have the required information form here to discuss with a Comcast Technical Agent.

Hope this helps you out and look forward to your clarification to provide additional assistance.

Between my house this morning (from which I posted the last message) and my office (from where I am posting this message), the domain name came alive.  My compliments to the team of Comcast people who managed to resolve this issue.

Hello audrey and welcome,

Are you sure that you are using a staticIP IP address for your wifi router because this is not a requirement. lease do the following:

1. login into the wireless router and go to the WAN interface and see what the IP address is?

2a. if it is between 10.1.10.10 and 10.1.10.199 then you are using Comcast Gateway (CG) DHCP server dynamic address, which is fine

2b. If it is not an IP Address specified in 2a. tell us the ? portion shown as to what the IP address is  ???.XXX.YYY.???

If you can connect a computer into on of the CG LanPorts 1-4 and access the internet, this means that you are running in CG DHCP server mode, too.

Get back to us about your IP address information so we can help you further.
