Comcast Business IPv6 DNS "reverse" (.ip6.arpa.) dlegation (& DNSSEC)

Comcast Business IPv6 DNS "reverse" (.ip6.arpa.) delegation.

I have, from Comcast Business an IPv6 /56 block.

I'm trying to get "reverse" DNS delegated.

I have the DNS entries I need Comcast Business to make.

I'm having a helluva time getting the data to a clueful Comcast [Business] support person who can make the needed entries.

How do I navigate this?  Quite annoying that there doesn't seem to be any findable means to enter a support ticket or the like to request the needed.

Ought be a simple case of open the "ticket" or the like, I put in reasonable description past in the data, and Comcast Business does the needed.

But I don't seem to be able to find any means to enter such.  Online there's only the chat bot that can't figure it out.

Calling support (800) 391-3000, after eventually navigating to a human (after inappropriate dead-end voicemail menus)

first rep simply dropped me when I asked if they don't understand what I'm asking to transfer me to someone who does.

Second call and rep ... over 30 minutes on phone so far ... they still haven't gotten me to someone who even

knows what DNS delegation is.

So, how do I reasonably navigate this and actually get the needed done?

Do I have to change ISPs if Comcast Business can't handle this?

First call was (duration) 00:08:20 and then was dropped.

Second call was 00:38:08 ... and did at least get a CR # from that, and presumably should hear within a business day - or at least not later than by sometime tomorrow.  Shall see how that goes - but hopefully will reasonably progress.

Hello @Michael_P and thank you for reaching out on our Comcast Business community forums!

I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially when you're trying to complete what should be a straightforward technical request and keep getting bounced between support channels that don't seem familiar with IPv6 reverse DNS delegation. After spending significant time navigating phone menus, chat tools, and multiple representatives without reaching someone who can assist, it's completely reasonable to be looking for a clearer path forward.

We'd like the opportunity to help get this in front of the right team. Please send us a Direct Message* with your business account information including the account number, address and your full name, the IPv6 block in question, and any details you've already been provided regarding the required reverse DNS delegation. We'll review the situation and work to connect you with the appropriate support resources.

To send a direct message:
  • Ensure you are first signed in, then you will see a chat box icon at the top right of your page, click that.
  • From there, click the 'Start new conversation' icon. In the 'To' field, type ‘Comcast Business’.
  • Type your message in the text area that appears at the bottom of the window and hit enter to send. An official employee, such as myself or whoever is first available, will respond.

Thanks, submitted the direct message (set of consecutive message) with the relevant information.

Hopefully this can all get completed by not later than end of tomorrow (really ought not take longer than

a business day to implement such a request).  Heck, from where I sit, takes mere minutes to implement such
DNS changes ... at least where I have the access :-)  Of course expecting you've got a queue of requests to deal

with, so, I'm not expecting instant ... but I am expecting reasonably timely implementation.

Well, more than 39 hours since I first called Comcast Business to request this,

and more than 16 hours since I last heard from Comcast [Business] / Xfinity,

and in that last contact they said it was being done and only matter of bit of time

for propagation delays before it would be fully effective.

Well, more than 16 hours it's still not been (properly) implemented.

Submitted another direct message,

awaiting results/response.

So,

RFC 2317 - Classless IN-ADDR.ARPA delegation / "reverse" DNS delegation for IPv4 for smaller than /24

for at least Comcast Business Customers that have one or more static IPv4 addresses,

does Comcast [Business] offer/support this?  Querying the forums seems to paint an inconsistent

picture.  E.g. they've done it (at least in past), "vs." many asking about it and no particularly clear

answers.

I know when I first inquired about it about 6 years ago, at that time,

Comcast Business support, at least on the phone verbally, told me,

perhaps incorrectly, that they didn't at all support such.

But other evidence suggests they do (or at least have in past).

So, ... what's the actual answer?  Yes, support it, or no, don't, and if not, any plans to

support it?  And if so, is there like a "feature request" or the like that's been submitted

that one can watch/track to see if/when it's actually implemented/supported?

And if Comcast Business won't support/allow RFC 2317,

do they at least provide API or even a web form or the like for customers to

much more directly update their "reverse" DNS for IPv4?  Because yeah,

the whole existing service request route and long delays to get such changes

done is pretty gawd awful, and yes, Comcast Business will increasingly bleed off customers

with that lack of service.  Yeah, when i relocate my current Comcast Business account (probably

in next few years), Comcast Business absolutely isn't currently my top pick, and, well, as things

have and haven't been going, I may drop Comcast Business sooner than that.

So ... if Comcast Business isn't yet supporting RFC 2317 for customers with static IPv4s,

do they at least have a feature request in queue to do so?  If not, consider this a request for that feature.  :-)

I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to see RFC 2317 support.

And ... bonus points if Comcast Business adds DNSSEC to their "reverse" (in-addr.arpa.) DNS

(I see that as unimplemented, at least thus far on (at least some of) Comcast's zones, such as 86.96.in-addr.arpa.)

Really ought be present on their DNS in general, ... at least I do see it in some places (e.g. comcast.com.),

so, well, at least got some things right.  :-)

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled RFC 2317 - Classless IN-ADDR.ARPA delegation / "reverse" DNS delegation for IPv4 for smaller than /24

@Michael_P At this time you cannot add, change, or delete your own reverse DNS (PTR) records instantly without filing ISP support tickets. It can take 24-48 hours with the ticket that was submitted. I will continue to follow up and provide you with update in messages so that I can provide you with account specifics.

@Comcast_Dena Okay, that answers part of the question.

So ... what about IPv4 "reverse" delegation via RFC 2317 for Comcast Business customers with IPv4 static IPs

(notably block(s) smaller than /24).

Will Comcast Business do such RFC 2317 delegations if so requested?  Yes, or no?

Really?  What personal information?

No (full) name, no address, none of "my" IP addresses, no account numbers, no MAC address(es), no passwords, no PINs, no credit/debit card numbers, no serial numbers, ... so, what's this "personal information" you're claiming to see?

Oh and what specifically in your guidelines?  By the way that URL you give for the guidelines returns a 404 error, so I'm definitely not spotting

anything running afoul of what you have at that URL.  ;-)
