xfinitywifi causing interference.

We have our own business network with switches and wireless access points, but the xfinitywifi APs are utilizing a lot of the RF spectrum and making it hard for our computers to function properly on wifi. It states that there are 45 xfinity wifi APs in the area, and my guess is they are all set to 100% power.

Is there anything you/we can do? We have tried changing chanels shifting to 5Ghz all with moderate success. Would be great if you could reduce the power on all of these APs or set them all to one chanel. Thanks.

If I'm reading your question right, you are saying that you can detect a large amount of xfinitywifi hotspots from other people in your area, and they are causing WiFi RF interference for you?

If so, then there is unfortunately little you can do. Comcast does not allow customers to configure any sort of advanced settings of the xfinitywifi hotspot, and I doubt that you would be able to get a representative to change these settings for you. I think you may be stuck with that.

I am guessing you have done a WiFi channel scan of the SSIDs in your area (using something like InSSIDer or the great Android app "Wifi Analyzer"), and have selected the least congested channel you see for your own WiFi SSID? I tend to recommend sticking to channels 1,6, or 11 ffor 2.4GHz, and 161 for 5GHz, if possible.

Hello SASB and welcome,

If you are referring to the Comcast DPC3939B or 3941B Gateways (CDGs), these are typically default configured to Channel 11 and primarily operate within the 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz frequency bands. These CDGs have a customer user interface that can be logged into via computer/laptop direct ethernet connect into any of the LanPorts 1-4, use 10.1.10.10 in Browser address field, then enter username=cusadmin and password=highspeed. There are configurable parameters in wifi such as channel no., broadcast, power levels, etc. So, you can make whatever adjustments on these CDGs that meets your business requirements.

Hope this helps you out.

Exactly the problem I'm running into. It's stating that there are 45 nearby APs and chanel 11 is completely overloaded, which really only leaves 1 and 6 which are also fairly full.

Seems like Comcast should disable their public crowd sourced "xfinitywifi" hotspot SSID in commercial settings to reduce wifi interference.

I guess I will contact them and see if there is anyway for them to adjust the customers in our building, but I have a feeling there won't be much they can do...

Thanks for your help!

I doubt it very much.
