Xbox360s wi-fi connectivity

i noticed after setting up my xbox via wi-fi that the speed showing within xbox was pegged at 11mbps. Tried going into the router configuration (Cisco DPC 3939B) but have had no luck on getting the wi-fi speed higher. I'm currently connected to the router and desktop via cat-6 cable and the speeds are fine. I have a few other devices connected via wi-fi such as cell phones (2), Sony blue ray player, Sony media box, MSI Wind U100 notebook and they all report wi-fi speeds as advertised.

I'm leaning at this point it being a driver related issue between the Cisco router and the Xbox360S. The router and xbox are within 3 feet of one another. I'n the mean time I connected the Xbox360 via lan wire to the router and the speeds are now much higher...tested within Xbox It was showing roughly 10-12mbps upload and download was between 25-30mbps.

When both were connected wi-fi upload/download very rarely ever over 4-5mbps.

Hello udidwht anf welcome,

First you need to find out what your Comast Internet Tier Speed (CITS) is 16 download / 3 upload, 25/10. 50/10. 75/15, 100/20, or 10/20. Comcast only guarantees you internet connection on a direct ethernet connected computer to any of the LanPorts 1-4 on the back of the modem. It sounds to me from your initial ost that you are a 25/10 customer.

Your wireless speed is always a direct function of the 802.3 B,G,N, or AC protocol ( refer to here ) Network Interface Card that is in your Xbox 360. Again, from what you described in your post, it sounds like you are running a,b, or g protocol which is 11 Mbps limited.

You need to connect a computer direct with an ethernet cable to any DPC Lan Port on the back to measure your CITS using speedtest.comcast.net to make sure you are getting the CITS you are paying for. If you are not then contact 800-391-3000 to have a technical internet agent check your internet configuration.

Hope this helps you out.

I'm on the 25/10 tier plan. My test results are 29.70 Mbps download and 12.31Mbps upload and ping is 10ms

My small Wind notebook only runs in either B or G mode it reports 54Mbps connection. I'm fairly certain the Xbox 360 slim runs at min. of 50-60Mbps max.

I'm now hardwired and I don't believe I'll go back to wirless soon. I just read on a couple of other forums that their was an issue with drivers on some of the newer wireless hardware devices of today that the Xbox360 slim might be finiky with.

Not to mention that fact that gaming (or any other latency-sensitive application) will perform much better on a hard-wired connection. I always recommend wired connections wherever possible.

I made mention of this because I noticed this issue after switching over from Centurylink.

Update:

I turned all devices off and disconnected the ethernet cords and power cycled the router (Cisco DPC 3939B). Once the router was back up I reconnected (both conn. via cat 6 wire) both devices (Desktop & Xbox 360 slim) and powered them on. The following are my speed test results:

Xbox 360s:

                                   Mbps

1. 17ms / up= 10.27 / down 5.98 / Packet loss= 0

2. 18ms / up= 11.61 / down 28.81 / Packet loss=0

3. 17ms / up= 11.83 / down 22.01 / Packet loss=0

4. 18ms / up= 9.30 / down 8.49 / Packet loss=0

5. 18ms/ up= 11.68 / down 17.75 / Packet loss= 0

6. 18ms/ up= 10.84 / down 24.19 / Packet loss=0

Desktop:

1. Down = 25.68 / Up = 12.22 / Latency 6ms

2. Down = 29.67 / Up = 12.20 / Latency 10ms

3. Down = 29.69 / Up = 12.25 / Latency 10ms

4. Down = 29.51 / Up = 12.23 / Latency 10ms

5. Down = 29.64 / Up = 12.21 / Latency 10ms

6. Down = 29.68 / Up =  12.19 / Latency 10ms

I posted this because I now notice that the Xbox intermittently signs out. I manually signed out and redownloaded my profile in an attempt to resolve this. It seemed to work but has signed me out twice since redownloading the profile. I wonder if this is some sort of compatibility issue between the router & Xbox 360s?

Still having the random sign out of profile issue on my Xbox 360s. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm connected via LAN wire to the DPC3939B router. I've tried different CAT cord, LAN port and router config settings within the router and nothing has solved it so far. The Xbox sign in profile disconnects are intermittent.

I've already been in contact with Microsoft support via chat and they state nothing wrong with Xbox 360s.

I do not have any issues with desktop or other devices such as cell phones and Motorola Xoom that are connected. The desktop is connected via LAN and the others via wireless.

Thanks
