Modem Admin Page Access

A Comcast tech installed a Netgear CG-3000DCR yesterday and told me I can access the admin page at http://10.1.10.1 but that doesn't work. After searching message boards, I found the suggestion to use http://192.186.100.1. This works, but the page provides no functionality other than changing the password. Also, I see that the modem is set up in bridge mode. I do have a wireless router connected to the modem.

What is going on? Is bridge mode the proper configuration for my network? (It wasn't with my previous Comcast equipment.)

HI jlgee.  In order to utilize the LAN ports on your current device bridge mode will have to be disabled.  Placing a device in bridge mode disables all router functionality, LAN DHCP is disabled and only one connected device will receive an IP address.

Thanks. That explains the situation. Can I disable bridge mode myself or do I need Tech Support to do it for me?

Hello jlgee and welcome,

Your computer/laptop must be directly connected to one of the rear Lanports 1-4 via an ethernet cable. Then bring up a browser enter 10.1.10.1 into the address field, username=cusadmin and password=highspeed. You must NOT be in true or pseudo bridge more to log into your Netgear DCR3000CG (NG3K). If you are using 192.168.100.1 and it works this tells me that your computer is plugged into one of your wireless router (wifiRtr) ethernet ports and you are actually logging into wifiRtr. This connection will not allow you to login to the NG3K, so make the adjustments I afrementioned and you should be all set.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks, VBSSP-RICH,

On more careful examination, the NG3K modem is in bridge mode. I have my PC connected to one of the 4 rear LAN ports and can bring up the admin page at 192.168.100.1. Under Administration -> Gateway Status, Operating Mode shows "Bridge."

Previously, I had an old Motorola SURFboard with no LAN ports, so I wasn't concerned with the operating mode. Now, because I can connect devices to the LAN ports, I'd like to be able to administer them. With the NG3K set in bridge mode, apparently I can't. On the other hand, everything works so maybe I should just leave it as-is. Should I ask Comcast to disable bridge mode?

If you have a wireless router than make sure the Internet port of the wireless router is plugged into the modem and nothing else is.  Then plug your entire network into the LAN ports on the wireless router.
