Issue with public wifi at my coffee shop
I have a coffee shop where I offer password protected access to wifi. About 4 weeks ago my router died and Comcast replaced it with a cable modem that also acts as a wifi router - the Cisco Device Type BWG. Since then my customers have been complaining: 1. that they are being dropped from certain websites after 10 minutes, 2. that they can connect to the wifi but not access any site for example - run a google search but when they click on a hyper link the browser generates a message that says -"Can't connect to server." One gentleman using an Windows PC was unable to run a speed test from a PC using a Windows 10. The issue seems to be impacting Apple Computers running Safari but I know other individuals are having issues. This is having a negative impact on my business. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Bob_CoffeeShop and welcome to the business forums.
I can certainly assist with your WiFi. It seems you're letting customers use your private network and not the hotspot, correct?
Could you let me know how many devices are usually connected when your internet services experience latency? Do all devices experience this is at the same time?

I am using the comcast buiness modem to broadcast the wifi - I dont' t have an additional router. Putting it in the bridge mode I think would result in the wifi no longer broadcast. is this accurate?

Since you're using your own network, you may want to look into putting your gateway into bridge mode or pass through depending on if you have statics or not.
Here's a link on how to do either of those:

Are you able to do this and let me know the results?

About 3 PM a friend came in with a new Apple MAC and was able to join the network but was not able to use the safari browser to connect to a saved site. A Google search yielded results but when clicking the hyperlinks was not able to connect to any of the sites - the message came up that said "Server unable to connect." At the time he was in the shop, there was 4 computers connected to 1 of the 2 guest networks. In addition to the these 4 guest PCs I have a Nest Device connected to the WiFi. Guest 1 is 2.4GHz and Guest 2 is 5GHz. Guest 1 is set to 802.11 a/b/n and Guest 2 is set to 802.11 a/c. This is a continuation of issue that started a month a go that resulted in Comcast replacing the cable modem that worked for 4 years with a new cable modem. I am actually looking at alternative services. This issue is causing me customers.

Correct. My apologies. I was under the assumption you were using your own equipment looking at the name of your networks. I would like to review for any issues with your signal.
Please private message me your first and last name, the name of your business, the full address of your business location and the phone number associated with your business account.
