Connectivity Issues

We recently switched over to Comcast Business. We also have Comcast Ethernet. We are a call center and use the Ethernet for our phone lines. Ever since we switched, we have had numerous problems with staying connected to the internet. Everything will work fine for a short span of time, and then it will stop working for a few minutes. After reloading a page a few times, it will start working again. This has been very frustrating as it makes it difficult for most of the office to get anything done. The phones, for the most part, have worked properly. Our IT company thought the problem was with our Firewall, and thought they fixed the problem, but it has continued, with it disconnecting with increasing frequency. Does anyone have any suggestions on what we can/ should do? Restarting the modem doesn't really help the issue.

Thanks!

Hello DataLink and welcome,

If you are using the Comcast Gateway (CG) internal DHCP Server for any of your devices connections and internet access, then you need to make sure that the DCHP Server leasetime setting is always set to FOREVER. This enables device who connect to the internet to always stay connected and not allowing their IP address to expire.

If you are using your FW DHCP Server for dynamic addresses for your devices, then you should look for a leasetime like setting in here also that should be set to forever, as well. Also, if you are using your FW DHCP Server, then you should make sure that your  CG DHCP Server is disabled to avoid any DHCP conflicts within your network for Internet access.

Hope this helps you out.

Hey, what if we are not the host of the server? Could we actually access the DHCP Options from our office? Or is this something only the server administrator can do? Thanks.

To access the CG DHCP option you must have a computer directed connected via ethernet cable, then bring up browser, use 10.1.10.1 in address field, then when username/password comes up use cusadmin/highspeed to login and gain access to the CG DHCP options.
