Silent Install Softphone

We have the latest download for the Softphone (ComcastSoftphone_5.6.0.1_99046.exe) and would like to mass deploy it.  Is there a silent install switch (or switches)?

This link can be found under Services -> Business VoiceEdge Users in your portal:

OK, so here is what I found out after a lot of trials.  There is some parts of the softphone that were made by or similar to Counter Path.

  • If you download and install the EXE right from the Comcast portal you can silently install it using the /SILENT switch, however the installer does not like to see a number of apps like Outlook, Excel, Chrome and others open so it ends up prompting the users to close and continue.  Not Ideal.  But you can set your installing package like KACE or SMS to install the app at Startup or when no one is logged in.
  • The EXE file you download is just another wrapper for an MSI package contained within.  If you start the setup and go to your temp folder (%TEMP%) you will see a temporary folder in there that will have the SOFTPHONE.MSI file and a few other files.  You can copy this folder out and this will allow you to use the standard MSI switches like /qn and the others.  Even with the /qn switch using the MSI you still get prompted to close Chrome, Outlook, etc if it is  open so, again, you will be best of deploying this when noone is logged in to the computer
  • Lastly when I say "no one logged in", this includes the screen being locked.  A user is still logged in with a locked screen.

Hope this helps anyone else looking to mass deploy this.

Hi JordanNolan and welcome to the forums! There is not currently a mass deployment option but I did a quick Google search for "silent switch finder" and there is a tool that came up. While we do not support and cannot endorse it, it could be worth a look 🙂 I hope that helps and please reach back out with any other questions or concerns!

Hi Gina,

Would you happen to know which installer package is used to create the install package?  InstallShield?

If I know that I can figure out a deployment strategy.

Good morning, JordanNolan!

I appreciate your question on your new softphone software. While I am not able to comment on any third party programs, I can recommend an alternative. Would you be able to share the executable link with the other people in the office to download the latest version?
