Specific Phone Number
Hello,
In a previous business I had a phone number with Comcast. We closed that business and opened a new one. At the time the old account was not yet closed so we got a new, random number. Now that the old account is closed we would like to add our old number to our existing service. I've been told by phone support that this is not possible. The last person even said "we do not allow vanity numbers'.
The first time I inquired about this the person said the number may have went back to Frontier since they originally had the number. However, I have spoken with them and they do not have the number. This seems like it should not be this difficult to get our old number back.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello zstray and welcome,
If you relocated your business or opened a new business, you should have had your old business telephone number ported to you new business location before you closed the old business account. This is due to telephone number must be active in order to port the telephone number. If you closed your old account before you opened / relocated to you new business location then that number will not be able to be ported into your new business location. If you would like to find out what carrier has your old telephone number, please try this website .
Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the reply.
In our case we were unable to move the number directly from the old business to the new. Comcast says Frontier has the number but Frontier says they don't have it. The website you linked to shows Frontier as the owner. Seems I'm in a loop.

Well when you opened your new business account you should have informed the Sales Representative that you needed to have your old account Telephone Number (TN) ported into you new account and this had to happen before you closed / disconnected your old business account.
That carrier "who owns this telephone number" website I provided is very accurate, so per your query, Frontier does have the TN so you might want to call Frontier again and tell them that youu have proof that they have that TN and asked them if it is available. They may be informing you that it is not available because sometimes if the TN is not available carriers will say they do not have that TN, and this is especially true for carriers that provide vanity TNs.
