Intermittent Busy signal on fax send

We are getting a busy signal when dialing a known not busy fax machine from our fax machine. This has happened two days in a row, at about the same time 11-12noon.

No matter what fax number we dial to, it shows back as busy. Yes, we know that sometimes fax machines get busy and need to redial and try again, so we tested to an in-house fax machine that was NOT busy, and still get a fast busy signal. Is there a signal overload, or are there settings that need to be configured on the phone unit?

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Hello Inkbyte and welcome,

Fax machine frequently do get into an infinite software loop when they are handling multiple FAXes. It is always a good idea to initialize the FAX machine as follows:

1. unplug the telephone wire from the telephone wall jack

2. unplug the AC power cord for 30 seconds

3. plug the telephone cord back into the wall jack

4. connect the power plug back into the AC receptable

5. Make sure the FAX machine is in auto answer or Ready to process FAXes

It is also a good idea to have a telephone connected to the FAX extension telephone jack to make sure there is telephone dial tone.  This provides a very easy means by which to be able to diagnose whether it is a telephone line issues or FAX machine issue.

Hope this helps you out

I tried everything I can find to successfully fax to China with no resolution.  It has to be a Comcast phone issue because we can successfully fax via the internet and our bank can successfully fax to China without issue.   Immediately after hitting send, the fax will sound a very faint busy signal.  it hasn't even had the opportunity to reach the destination fax!.  We've tried when the destination business is open and the fax is fully operational with paper.  I've tried at all hours of the day - no success.  We receive faxes and we can send faxes to domestic phone numbers, but we have not been able to fax to China for the last 6 mos or more.

Thank you for posting your question here in the Comcast Business Forum. We sincerely apologize that you are experiencing issues when attempting to send faxes to China. All our Comcast Business phone lines have International dialing disabled by default. You can log into the Comcast Business customer portal (with the primary user credentials) and enable this feature yourself by following the directions below. If you are unable to do it online we can certainly enable International dialing on any line, simply let us know on this thread if that is what you would like.

Enabling International Long Distance with Comcast Business VoiceEdge

  • Sign in to My Account and select Business VoiceEdge Manager from the Services menu.

  • Expand the Advanced Settings section and select International Long Distance.

  • Turn International Long Distance capabilities On or Off by user.

**Note**: When dialing internationally you must follow the steps below with Comcast Business phone:

Make an International Phone Call

For international calls outside of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP):

  1. Dial 011.
  2. Enter the country code.
  3. Dial the number.
Note: Dial 0 or 00 for help connecting your call.
