Custom caller ID using toll free number

A business just recently switched providers and moved to Comcast. The company has an in-house PBX and is using analog trunks. At the previous provider, outbound calls used the company's toll free number for outbound caller ID. In other words the recipient would see the toll free number on their phone.

Comcast is saying that they can't configure the Custom Caller ID feature to use the toll free number and that only one of the local numbers can be used. I find this hard to believe as I can't imaging their enterprise class switching equipment isn't capable of such a baisc config change.

Does anyone have any insight into how to make this happen?

Hello cmcfarling09 and welcome,

The Comcast Business Toll Free TN is usually connected to one of your Comcast Digital Voice Telephone Numbers (TNs). If this customer has an Arris TMXXX telephone modem this is the case.  However, if this customer does not have any Arris TMXXX device and is using Comcast Pri/Trunk service, then you need to contact this service operation at this link.

Hope this helps you out.

The customer has an Arris TM608G. Does the TM608G admin console have any settings that would affect the outbound caller ID?

No. The Caller ID is only handled from a technical other means that Comcast technical agents have access to.

Hope this helps you out.

Do you think there is a technical limitation that would keep Comcast from adding a toll free number as outgoing caller ID? Or is a policy issue that is keeping them from doing it? I just have to think that their switch equipment is technically capable of doing this.
