How to transfer domain name out

I would like to take control of my extra domain name and transfer it to another registrar.  How/where do I do that?

Thanks for your help,  Judy

Hello jnelsonmoore and welcome,

Need a little more clarification to assist you better from the following:

1. So by " take control of my extra domain name " are you referring to your a.) Comcast 3 page free existing domain website or  b.) a Domain website that you orginally had and added it into the Comcast Business Portal under the Comcast email hosting umbrella?

Typically, if you own your Domain (.b) then you can move it into another Domain hosting company by having both the MX, CNAM, PTR, NS, SOA records modified by your registrar administrator and have your Domain zone file also updated.

Hope this helps you out and looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello RickBailey,

Welcome to the forum.

You are correct, you can transfer to another registrar if you so choose.

Please note however that once a domain is transferred it cannot transfer back.

Thank you

So if I take advantage of the free Comcast domain name registration, does this domain name then belong to me and can I transfer it to another registrar in the future?

Hello dpatch123,

These are the steps to transfer a domain:

  • Sign into the Business Class Portal as a Primary Manager and select Websites from the Manage Services menu.
  • Select the Edit website link from the menu of the left side to load the Sitecontrol window.
  • Select the Domain Name link under Manage Services to load the Domain Names page.
  • Click Edit to the right of the domain to be transferred.
  • The Domain Summary screen will load.
  • The Auth Info Code and Domain Lock status are shown on this screen.
  • Note the Auth Info Code so that the customer can provide it to their desired registrar.
  • If the Domain Lock Status shows Locked, click edit to disable the lock.
  • Once the lock is disabled, the customer can provide the Auth Info Code to their desired registrar who will then complete the registration transfer.

Thank you

There is no edit website button/link on my Domain Names page. I have only an edit DNS link.

The domain is registered at comcast. shouldn't i have the edit website link also?
