I was looking to get my own modem since I started getting charged a rental fee. I had called a tech a few weeks ago and was told in order to keep my static ip, I needed the same exact model modem.
I purchased an SMCD3G-BIZ and when I called to activate it, they said that I HAD to use a Comcast provided modem in order to have a static ip. So it's possible that the rates could get increased to whatever amount and I would be forced to pay them in order to use a static ip? Can anyone clarify this?
Thanks,
Doug
Welcome dgcurtis. Thank you for the post. Here is a Link to the Comcast Terms & Conditions as well as Acceptable Use Policies.
Thank You
So I'm assuming you are referring to article 2.6 because I can't find any other part of this 20 page document that this would fall under.
If that's the case, since customers can't configure the WAN interface of a cable modem, it's not that you can't provide static ips for customer equipment: you won't?
