My SMC router/cable modem stops handling DHCP every few weeks and I usually log in to it over HTTP and verify that that is the problem, and reboot it. Today when I rebooted it, I found I was unable to log in with the username and password. I rebooted it again (power cycle) and it's still the same. How can I get it fixed?
Hello Klotz,
Welcome to the forum.
I've check the status of the SMC IP-Gateway and reverted the customer admin password back to default.
Please power cycle your network and try connecting to the internet, after the test try log into the IPGW.
Please tell us of your issue's status, we are here to help
Thank You
Thank you, you fixed it! I am able to log in! I do not know how the password got changed, but I suspect I must have pressed submit on the wrong screen of the SMC management web ui.
At some point I would like to replace this SMC device with an SB6141 and I will watch your http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ for 6141 qualification.
Glad to be a help.
In respect to your interest of SB6141: yes, please continue to check for its qualification within Comcast.
Please continue to post technical support questions and concerns you have in this forum.

So I reset the modem and know I can not login to the modem Not sure what happend I was able to login just fine before this happend. I never changed anything.
webguy,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for posting.
I've checked the status of the SMC IP-Gateway and corrected customer admin password back to default.
Please attempt to login.
Additionally regarding DNS address of : ( 75.75.75.75 / 75.75.76.76) it is our national DNS assigned to our IPGWs, as "68" was.
Thank You
I was able to login so I dont understand about the DNS why did it do that when I reset the modem and kicked me off of it. is it ok to use the 68. DNS
webguy,
When our IPGWs are reset, it reaches out to our network for new updates.
“If” there is one, appropriately our IPGW will receive it causing the PW to revert to default.
Regarding “68” DNS: yes, you can use it; however, we are phasing out our old DNS servers (including 68).
In that respect I do recommend using “75”, which is our national DNS servers.
Thank You
I m having the same prob too. cannot acess smc. can it b reset pls.

Last night my gateway was reset. I'm guessing it was a FW update. At any rate, my password has been reset, but NOT to the default login that I used originally or to the one in the Business Class manual. I can't log in.
I seem to be affected by this same problem, I suddenly can't login to my SMC Gateway any more. I urgently need to access it, can you reset my gateway's username/password as well? Thanks!

Hi, just found this thread and hope it is the answer. Cannot login to my gateway and the references to resetting to default don't help. We have no documentation with this device so I have no idea what the default was! I have a password scribbled on the install order but no user id. The gateway of 10.1.10.1 brings up the signin screen but I'm stopped there. Can you help?
