Gateway for DHCP

I am thinking of buying a gateway that is "Comcast approved" but is not on the list of Business IP gateway devices (which can only be rented from CB). I am at the Starter level and do not need a fixed IP. Could, for example, the Zoom 5363 be a working solution for me (given that it is on the Xfinity Residential list of approved devices)?

While you may be able to get a rep to activate that modem, only the ones listed on http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net are officially supported. There could be unforseen issues arising from use of an unsupported device.

Zoom 5363 is one of the ones listed - but just not for Business IP. Am I right to assume that if it's on the general Comcast list it's fine - just not if you need a fixed IP?

You are incorrect. The Zoom 5363 is a residential approved modem up to Extreme 150, but it is not supported as an approved Business Class modem, per the http:mydeviceinfo.comcast.net by moving the business tiers gauge blue ball to starter 16/3 speed. Comcast Business Class only supports customer owned modems on the Business Speed Tier gauge.

Thanks. So I think you are confirming what I was saying: that the only way you can have a wireless gateway on Comcast Business is if you rent one from Comcast. Any ones you buy will not be supported - even if they are supported for residential service.

Yes you are correct. The customer owned supported modems are reflected within the this business modem selection tool.
