Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

I can't get a chromecast to connect to the 2.4 GHz signal of my new Cisco DPC3939B Router.  I've tried tweaking various settings but still no luck.  Google mentions that 'AP Isolation Mode' needs to be disabled on dual-band routers but I don't see a setting for this in the admin util.

Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

Hello cncoats and welcome,

So, you have a ChromeCast (CC) that you cannot get it to connect to the DPC3939B (DPC) router wifi, huh? Well, provide us some additional information as follows:

1. Are you trying to power up the CC using the USB power cord being plugged into the DPC USB port? If yes, this DPC USB port does not work or supported for this implementation.

2. Are you using the DPC private or public wifi ? If public, you have to have a Comcast Business or Residential email account w/password to log in for any period of time greater than two 60 minutes sessions over a 30 day timeframe. If private, are you able to change the CC SSID and PC Key to that on the bottom plate of the DPC?

3. Do you have a Netflix, Hulu, etc. account to be able to use this CC apps functionality? If not, Comcast does not provide any DPC inherent freebee video streaming for Google CC.

Hope this helps you out and look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

Thanks for your response.

To answer your questions:

1.  No, I'm plugging the chromecast into a wall outlet

2.  Private and I have not changed the SSID/Keys for each channel from the default settings, so they match what's on the bottom plate of the DPC.  (also, I have a Comast business account)

3.  Yes, I have Netflix, etc.

The issue is that the Chromecast itself cannot connect to the 2.4 GHz signal (so I can't even get to the point of attempting to stream something like Netflix).

Here is what I'm seeing in the setup:

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

You are welcome.

Do you know what 802.3 b/g/n protocol your CC uses? Make sure your DPC wifi mode is set to mixed mode b/g/n so there is no issue here, first.

Have you ever used the CC successfully on any other wifi network? If not, then this could be one of the CC that have been considered lemons. See the very bottom Discussion of this site for some mixed but interesting CC review information.

Have you been able to log into the DPC and check all your internal settings? Make sure your wifi is totally enabled. Have you tried the 5.0 GHz wifi channel or is the CC only 2.4GHz?  There is a specific facility that allows you to manually connect any device to the private/public  wifi. Check this out if you haven't already.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

really?  I just got business internet so I can use my Chromecast at the office and the router isn't compatible?  Just got installed today and wasted an hour trying troubleshoot it and now find this post.

I'm also having this exact issue.  Not happy at all about this.  Where can we check for firmware updates to this router? Besides this thread, of course.  And how do we go about installing this update once it's released?

Same issue here. Do I need to call comcast and ask for a different router?

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

I too am having the same issue. Comcast seems to have no clue how to fix this. I've been troubleshooting this issue since the day I had business class installed last week, have had two techs on site to try and resolve it, even switched my modem. I cant even tell you how many hours I've spent on the phone with 'tech support' either. On that note, I dont know how some of those people have jobs, not ONE person even knew what AP isolation is.

Comcast, get it together or I'll switch back to u-verse business class... I'm only 6 days having your service and the one thing I use for my business most is NOT compatible. Might want to light a fire under cisco because I'm sure there are countless others with the same issue who have not even seen this forum. After all, it took me 6 days to find it myself.

Re: Chromecast with Cisco DPC3939B Router

1.  It is set to mixed-mode b/g/n

2.  Yes, it worked successfully with the router my previous provider (Verizon) issued me, so it's not a "lemon"

3.  Yes, wfii is fullly enabled.

Please see screenshots of the wifi setup for each band:

Hello cncoats and gazog, sorry for the delay.

At this time the Cisco 3939B is not compatible with Chromecast. Our senior engineering team is working with Cisco to resolved this issue, and a fix will be in place with the next firmware update. We will post an update once the new firmware is released.

Sorry for any incovinece at this time.

I'm having the same issues. When will this upgrade be? I am not very happy with wasting money, because this product doesn't function, at all.
