AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE image/x-icon
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE image/svg+xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/rss+xml

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-javascript
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/xhtml+xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-font
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-font-truetype
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-font-ttf
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-font-otf

# For Olders Browsers Which Can't Handle Compression

Re: Enable Gzip on your website

Since you are using .htaccess files I am assuming yoiu are using apache correct?

If thats the case, you enable the mod_deflate

Ubuntu would be

a2enmod deflate

or for BSD

/usr/local/etc/apache24/httpd.conf

uncomment "LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so"

and then you need to go into your site's config file and add the text you added to the .htaccess file.
