Wireless PCs can't view wired Printer or other PCs

Our internet setup:

I have the Make CISCOModel dpc3941b modem along with a CradlePoint AER1650LP4 router connected to the modem in the WAN port and a 24-port network switch connected to the router. As for WiFi we have the Business Pro service that has a Private and Public Wifi SSID.

Our issue:

We are able to access the Internet using our wired and wireless PCs. However, the wireless PCs cannot access or view the wired PCs & wired printers and vice versa. I tried changing the Gateway to bridge mode which I thought was promising because it updated our network map diagram from having a PC connect to a bunch of switches to reducing it to just the PC to Gateway to Internet. Unfortunately the wired and wireless resources cannot see each other. Also, I am unable to access the router using the password on the back of the router. I tried resetting the router multiple times with no luck.

Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. I can help with the internet service concern. Would you mind sending me a private message with your full name, the last four digits to your account number, and a phone number linked to the account so I can help?

Ted,

What functions are provided by the CradlePoint AER1650LP4 router? Both the Cradlepoint and the dpc3941b provide DHCP and NAT for IPv4 as well as WiFi connectivity. There are too many conflicting functions in your configuration. In particular, if the wireless resources are using the Comcast Gateway WiFi, then they look like internet devices to the CradlePoint and cannot connect without setting up port forwarding for IPv4 connections. Every target device would need entries in the CradlePoint Port Forwarding tables. If the WiFi devices use channels provided by the CradlePoint, then they would be in the same IPv4 subnet and would see the wired devices.

Unless you need some special functions from the CradlePoint, you could simply connect your 24 port switch directly to the Comcast gateway. This is exactly the configuration in one school I support. It works fine for both IPv4 and IPv6 using either Ethernet connections or the Comcast WiFi. Etherenet-connected access points are used to provide extended WiFi coverage.

So, for us to give good configuration advice, you must specify what your goals are and why you are using the CradlePoint between the Comcast gateway and your wired LANs.

Re: Wireless PCs can't view wired Printer or other PCs

Thanks for taking the time to reply. As for our goals we want to achieve the following:

Have a private and guest wireless SSIDs

Enable Private Wifi PCs to use the wired network's copiers, printers, other network PCs (if they so desire) etc

Enable Wired network PCs to see wireless private network copiers/printers and PCs (if wired PCs so desires)

Our current setup was created by the Comcast technician (Modem with Cradlepoint). They also added another switch in the middle of the office to serve as an extender (I guess).

I will give your suggestion to add the switch directly to the comcast modem to see if that makes a difference. Also, should the Gateway still use Bridge Mode?

Thanks again

Re: Wireless PCs can't view wired Printer or other PCs

Use the Comcast WiFi guest network for guests. It can not reach the local LAN.

The Comcast WiFi customer network has full access to and from the local LAN.

The Comcast gateway should not be in bridge mode.

Ethernet switches can be use to branch the network as required.
