I just recieved an SMCD3G-CCR modem from Comcast Business. I am noticing a very small amount of dropped packets anywhere from 3 to 4 out of 900 for example, when I plug my laptop directly into the modem via ethernet cable. I am pinging google.com when I do this. I've also tried other sites with similar results. We also have an AT&T DSL connection that I did the same test with and it returned no lost packets out of 1,000. I've done each test several times.
I took a look at the gateway summary section in the modems admin interface and noticed my Upstream Power is a little on the low side (between 33.5000 and 31.0000 dBmV). From what I read Comcast recommends at least 35.0000 dBmV all the way on up to 50.0000 dBmV.
I do have a splitter Comcast installed that splits one coax cable coming into the building into three, so that I can run my PRI modem and telephony modem along with the SMC for Internet.
I guess my main question is should I worry about these upstream power levels in conjuction with the small amount of packet loss I am seeing or is this normal and the loss is related to something else? I can post my other signal info if need be but all of that seemed to be in spec.

I would recommend that you have no reason to worry about 4/900 = 0.00444444444 % packet loss. Perhaps a possible reason for your AT&T DSL not having any packet loss is due to the much lower processing speed difference. If you start seeing => 10% packet loss then it may be necessary to have a signaling adjustment at your location, but right now it seems you are fluctuating between yellow to mostly green which I base this on your 0.00444444444 % packet loss.
