what should the starting frequency be set to on my netgear modem?

Hi linkster and welcome to the forums! Usually the channels are assigned to equalize data across the downstreams; are you asking because you're seeing timeouts? If so, I'd like to take a look since it may be an issue outside of the Netgear itself that a tech would need to look into. If so, please click on my handle (Comcast_Gina) and send a private message with your name, the business name, the complete service address (including city, state, ZIP, suite number, etc), and the phone or account number.
