Can you ping the IP via command prompt on your business internet? What happens if you slightly increase your timeout threshold as the error suggest, does it help?

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

That's good. So the connection is being made.  Next thing you'll want to do is be sure that passive mode is enabled.

To enable or disable PASV mode

  1. Click File > Site Manager.

  2. Click the site you want to modify, then click Edit.

  3. In the Data connection box, select the Use PASV mode check box.

If that doesn't work try bypassing your router(if applicable) and rebooting your modem.

If that still doesn't work. Download http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ and run a few hundred test against that IP and post the results here.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

I'm sorry about this, but it appears I wasn't clear when I provided the instructions for the MTR. When I said a few hundred test I meant a single test sending a few hundred packets.

On the other hand, those MTR's look OK.

Have you tried contacting your hosting provider to see if they can do anything? It'd be worth having them restart the FTP daemon and running  a reverse trace to you.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

Inmotion Hosting tell me after I told them your suggestion,

"but it seems that Comcast might have the port 21 blocked. Ask Comcast if they have it blocked. You can always test the port by using telnet to test the port.

To test if port 21 is blocked, open your command line on your local computer. For windows users, you can access this via start -> run -> cmd. Mac users can use the "terminal" application. Once on the command line, type:

telnet yourdomain.com 21

Please let us know if you have any further questions; we are more than happy to help.

Best Regards,

Alex B

InMotion Hosting

888-321-HOST (4678) Available 24/7"

I tried they suggestion.

telnet prorider.com 21, under Comcast Business internet connection, cannot connect.

Screenshot 2014-05-04 14.33.33-Comcast.png

Then, try the command under old DSL connection, connect server successly.

Screenshot 2014-05-04 14.33.33-DSL.png

It clear, the port 21 at Comcast Business Internet, not open for use.

Can you open the port 21 for me?

Thank you.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

Hello ericbsw,

Have you tried Use FTP to upload files to your Comcast Business website  or  Troubleshoot website publishing issues

because the error message you are getting seems to be related to your website domain(s)  not being registered with Comcast.  Also, could you provide some clarification as to what  70.39.144.112 refers to in your original post display?

If you need you DHCP device address (10-1.10.10-199) port 21 (command FTP) and port 20 (FTP data) connected to your Comcast Gateway (CG), just do the following :

1. connect computer to any free CG LanPorts 1-4, open a browser, type in 10.1.10.1, username=cusadmin, password=highspeed,

2. then click on Firewall, then Port Configuration Tab,

3. then add button and use thehis example - FTP21 21 21 TCP 10.1.10.10 - 199  and FTP20 20 20 TCP 10.1.10.10 - 199.

This should do it for you IF this is the issue.

Hope this helps you out.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

Now I use Motorola SB6141 Modem, which is a modem only, cannot do any configration you mentioned.

Situatuon is very clear, problem is that Comcast network has port 21 blocked somewhere other than my getway.

Please tell me, who can open the port 21 for me.

Thank you.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

I didn't think Comcast did the SB6141 for business class customers, they should have given you a Comcast business gateway.

At this point, you should call Comcast and see if there is a block on port 21. It's not likely, but it's possible the previous customer on your IP had it blocked due to an abuse complaint and was never removed once his IP switched. It's somewhat of a long shot, though.

You should also disable any firewalls/real time antiviruses which are running on your home computer just to rule out the possibility of one of them blocking it.

Re: Cannot connect ftp of my website through Comcast, but old centurylink DSL Ok.

Thank you for your advise.

I tried ftp connect after disable firewall/antiVirus, still got error message.

Then I called 1-800-391-3000 to ask them to open the port 21, but I feel they don’t understand what I’m talk about, no result.

Is there any way to contact a Tech Support who understand this issue?

Thnank you.

Yes, that will happen...you'll just need to call a few times until you can find someone who can assist. My recommendation would be to call and tell them your problem and if they have no idea. Ask that they send it to level 2, but tell them what to say.

Something simple as "Port 21 seems to be blocked, which is inteferring with my business website."  I *hope* anyone in level 2 will know that port 21 is for FTP and will know to just check for a block on their router.

Edit: Not sure why I didn't check this earlier..but I am actually unable to telnet into that port from my home connection and confirmed my results by using an Enterprize connection out of Chicago.
