I am a Business Customer.
When using xfinitywifi on my Phone (One+ 7 Pro, Adroid 10) I am required to manually sign in every time. I understand the system should remember my sign-in (see https://business.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/comcast-business-access-public-xfinity-wifi-h... ) but it does not.
I tried the App but the App seems to not be optimized for Android 10 Power mode etc. and reports high battery usage so that is not an option.
Please check why the system does not remember my signon.
If there is an option to whitelist a MAC address to overcome the issue (I can't find anything like that in my account portal - my previous provider Altice/Optimum allowed whitelisting of 15 MACs) I can provide that via PM.
Thanks for your help
Thanks so much for taking the time to reach out to us and welcome to our Business Forums. I would love to look further into the Xfinity Wifi remember user concerns. Can you please reach out through private message with your first and last name, full service address and account number or phone number? -Comcast_Michelle
Hello, I hope that your week is progressing well so far. I see that someone from our advanced teams did reach out to you today and left a voicemail. Did you get this message? They should have left contact information to reach back out to them directly regarding the hotspot issue.
I got the message - but there was no contact information - the person said in the message they would call again - which they did not.
Please have them reach out again and leave direct contact information if I can't pick up...
I would be more than happy to make that request for you. Is there a best time for someone to reach you at as well? I would love to include this information in the request so that we can ensure that we reach out to you at your convenience and get this resolved.
Thank you - much appreciated.
I should be reachable pretty much all day... (I know I may be jinxing myself by saying that but it is hard to tell when I mayhave a vendor or customer that I can't step away from ) - callback information will be very helpful
I totally understand I know that everytime I say that I will be available for a phone call something always comes up to prevent that. I know how time get away from you especially while trying to run a business. I have the update on the request for you and I will continue to follow up with you from here as well to ensure that we get this resolved. If you need anything in the meantime please don't hesitate to reach out to us at any time.
I have not received a call so far today.
I will send you the MAC address of the phone that requires me to sign in again and again via direct mail in a minute - maybe it will help the specialist.
I am so sorry to see that you have not yet received a phone call from us and I do see that the ticket is still open, so you should be expecting another phone call within the next 24 hours. I am so sorry for any frustrations and we do appreciate your patience with us while we look into this for you. I will keep an eye out and reach back out to see if you were contacted. -Anisa
I am less concerned about the app (in general I found apps that try to manage WiFi to always do a worse job than plain Android (or Oxygen) - at least since Version 9 of Android).
I am concerned that the Comcast System does not remember me after logging in manually - despite what the help documentation says.
If we can fix that part then the app is really not needed....
More details on the App:
I tried on a Nokia 7.1 and am having the same problem there
It's Android One with straight Android 10 - so it's not an Oxygen related problem.
It seems that the xfinity wifi app is not optimized for Android 10 (10 was released for Developers in May 2019 - that should have been enough time to get the app ready before devices started getting 10)
Hey there, I'm following up for Rob,
Thanks for the additional details. It looks like your request with tech ops is still pending so we'll keep an eye on this.
Regarding the possibility of whitelisting, if it were that issue, you would not be able to connect to the hotspot at all and browse the web so I don't think that is it. Real quick, when you attempt to manually connect to the hotspot, do you get a certificate error at all?
Thank you for your response.
No certificate error - When I manually connect everything works as expected and the connection authentication persists even if I lose wifi for a moment (e.g. moving through a building where the coverage is not that great) it works again.
When I travel into an area with xfinity wifi the next day (not sure if it's 'the next day' or different area that is causing the system to lose my authentication) it does not remember me and I have to manually connect again. According to the help site that should not be happening..
Thanks for confirming. Yep, when it works as intended, you're supposed to be able to seamlessly connect when you move from one hotspot to another. Just curious, are all devices using the same user ID for the hotspots?
yes - same user ID (I only have one).
I got a call a little while ago and we did a password reset on the account as it may help to sync something on the backend.
I will try again and see if it works now - may take a couple of days.
But you gave me a second Idea: I will setup an additional User ID as well - just to try as well.
I'll report back as soon as I see if it works or the issue persists....
Glad, you caught on to where I was going. lol. Yes, definitely try a new username if you can and let me know what comes out of either the new ID or the reset that was done. I'll check back in!
I was able to do a partial test today and it was promising. I need another 1-3 days to make it to a xfinitywifi area I normally go to and try if it still remembers me. Will update the post shortly.
Thanks for keeping us posted. I will follow up with you in a couple of days, if we don't hear from you first to make sure that all is going well.
I am afraid it's still not working well:
xfinitywifi remembered me the next day - good!
But yesterday and today it asked me again to log in.
This was with the secondary ID I created so it does not seem to be related to the primary ID.
I double checked and I am still using the device MAC on the phone.
As I have same same issue on another phone with Android 9 (The OnePlus has Oxygen 10/Android 10) is there something in the way the comcast networks remembers the phones that may have broken with Android 9 and above?
As mentioned before my old provide allowed me to add the MAC addresses to my account through the web-interface to pre-authorize them and it always worked there with no problem. Is there any way we can do the same for xfinitywifi (this may overcome the issue)?
Many Thanks and Happy Holidays
Hey there! Thank you so much for your time and patience. I am happy to hear that xfinitywifi remembered you the next day! However, I am sorry to hear that yesterday and today it asked you to log in again. From what I understand, there should not be anything in the way causing our networks to not remember phones with Android 9 or above . I did some additional research on my end and found more information on other things that may prevent the auto connection to the hot spots. Here are some reasons.
I also found a page for where you can enter the devices and your MAC addresses. https://comca.st/2QeQ3Pv Please let me know if this helps.
The Link you provided would be great - except it redirects to the Xfinity Residential logon not Comcast Business and my comcast business User-ID/Password does not allow me to login.
Do you have a similar link for Comcast Business?
Unfortunately none of the reasons you listed are at play here....
Here is some more information I found that I found for registering devices. After further research, I have discovered that the Xfinity WiFi network actually offers two SSIDs, or network names, for user device hot spot connections:
xfinitywifi - Open Xfinity WiFi for public use: Your device will be registered for automatic sign-in after successfully signing in to a hotspot, and you will not be required to provide your Xfinity username and password to connect to the Xfinity WiFi network using the same device.
XFINITY - Secure Xfinity WiFi for encrypted connection for public use: To connect to the secure XFINITY SSID, complete a one-time configuration of your device to add a secure profile. Once you load the secure profile onto your device, it will automatically authenticate and connect to the secure SSID. Downloading the secure profile is required to connect to the XFINITY SSID automatically, but is optional for the xfinitywifi SSID. To connect to the secure XFINITY SSID, complete a one-time configuration of your device to add a secure profile. Once you load the secure profile onto your device, it will automatically authenticate and connect to the secure SSID. Downloading the secure profile is required to connect to the XFINITY SSID automatically, but is optional for the xfinitywifi SSID.
Based on my research, I am seeing that by downloading the latest version of the XFINITY Hotspots app is recommended for downloading and installing a secured profile for automatically connecting to the XFINITY SSID.
After further research, I am seeing that your device will automatically authenticate and connect to secure Xfinity WiFi hotspots if you are using the Xfinity WiFi app or if you provisioned your device for secure Xfinity WiFi access. If you change the password for the account, you will have to sign in again in the Xfinity WiFi app, or will have to re-install the secure profile at https://comca.st/394zu1j. When visiting the previous link, there is an option to download the app or select your device option by scrolling further down. The options to select are laptop, handheld, or tablet. Connecting one of the devices by following the steps for the preferred device will then provision your device for the Secure WiFi access. Please let me know if this helps.
Unfortunately the App is not an option:
The Last Update is over 1 year old and it does not play nice with Android 9 or 10:
Battery Use is excessive - I suspect it does not take advantage of GPS-A vs full GPS for location data and passive vs. active WiFi monitoring etc...
Others have reported the issue in the App Feedback in the play store as well...
xfinitiwifi would be fine - for what I do I don't need the secured version.
A link to manually add the MAC address for Comcast Business like the one you provided for Xfinity Residential would likely solve the issue.
Thank you so much for your patience! I did see that you provided this information earlier about the app not being an option for you. However, I am reading that using the app is the best recommendation. After doing some additional research, I discovered that we do not offer a page for manually adding the MAC address for Comcast Business. I am happy to say that I did find an alternative for provisioning your device for secure Wi-Fi access instead of manually adding the MAC address. After selecting the mobile device option at the previous link I provided, it brought me to the provisioning page for mobile devices. Here is the link, which will first ask you to sign in with your user name and password. Have you tried using this option to provision your mobile device yet to see if you experience the same issue? https://comca.st/34Rc5gw
Hi there GeoGeo, I wanted to check back in and see if you had any luck with the information Gabe provided. Let us know when you get a chance and I hope the holidays treated you well!
Thank you - same to you
I didn't have a chance to try yet - need to be in a commercial area with the secure hotspot first... Will update as soon as I have a chance to try...
I am afraid no luck:
The secure XFINITY wifi only works with a certificate.
The xfiniti wifi App is incompatible in providing the certificate for Android 10.
So it looks like I am out of luck until comcast either stars providing an interface to authorize MAC addresses (like xfinity residential does) or updates the xfinitiy wifi app so it works with the current version of Android.
Could you plass this along to your development/management teams. It seems a bit strange that residental has better options to use your public hotspots than business has....
If there are any other ideas I will be happy to try...
Have a great day - and thanks for all the attempts at overcoming the issue
Appreciate the update! Thanks for confirming the issue with the certificate on the Android 10 OS.
Our engineers are aware of the issue and we are working on a fix. I heard they are near a hotfix that is expected to roll out sometime January 2020 (fingers crossed), so keep a look out for an app update soon.
Hi there, I wanted to see how things have been working since we last spoke and make sure that you are enjoying your services 🙂 I hope all is well and happy 2020!
no update - as per the last exchange - waiting to see when you update the android app...
For now the xfinitywifi still does not remember my login after a day or so...
Happy 2020 to you as well!
