SMC 8014 vs Motorola SB6141

We've been on Comcast business internet for about 5 years and we currently have a Comcast SMC 8014 modem....our internet speeds are not great and have seemingly decreased a bit over the last couple of years. If I upgrade the modem to a Motorola SB 6141 are we likely to see a noticeable improvement in performance? Or, am I better off just asking Comcast to some onsite and review our setup? Thanks

Welcomei JoJoReyes.  If you are having problems with your service, a diagnosis by a Comcast Technician can determine if it is an issue with the SMC gateway or if there are issues on the line.  The SMC8014 is a DOCSIS 2 gateway/router and is being replaced with DOCSIS 3 capable devices.  While the Motorola SB6141 is a DOCISIS 3 device is capable of higher speeds, changing the device will not change your service level wich determines your overall downstream/upstream speeds.

Also the Motorola SB6141 is a standalone modem and cannot be utilized on accounts that have fixed static IP addresses.

Which retail modems will work with Comcast's static ip address scheme?  The entries in the list linked above do not have a column showing this capability.

No retail modems will take static IPs; for statics you must rent a special modem from Comcast.
