Monitoring Comcast Business service via SNMP on Surfboard SB6190 cable modem?

Hi,

According to Arris website, all cable modems are capable of being monitored via SNMP, but it seems the SNMP port on its LAN (192.168.100.1) is not open.  Is it possible to open it up and allow access from directly connected peer (my gateway) so I can monitor the modem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there! This is a really good question! In order to do all we can to keep our network secure, SNMP is currently blocked on all outbound and inbound traffic on the Comcast Business network. You would be able to use it internally on your network to monitor devices. However, you would not be able to view this data remotely using SNMP. To remotely monitor traffic on your network, there are several third-party solutions that rely on more secure methods than SNMP though! If you get a chance to search these forums, there's a lot of other good information from other members that may be helpful 🙂
