Curiosity question: got 2 modems installed - why?

Hello,

out of curiosity: today Comcast installed Business Internet plus Phone. The phone has it's own Arris CM820 modem, which then connects into a Panasonic deivce that provides a wireless link to the phone.

The Internet comes via an DPC3941B, which seems to have (unused) phone connectors. My question - out of curiosity - is: why 2 modems? Is the Arris using dedicated channels reserved for VoIP ?

Thanks & Regards,

Marc

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us through our business forums. I am so very sorry for the delay in our response. These are great questions. The cisco modem has the voice side disabled. This allows for a stable internet connection for your business services. The phone modem is separated to allow many of the phone features included with your services to function, primarily our call forward not reachable feature, if the phone modem goes offline the business lines will then forward to a previously programming phone number so that you do not miss any business calls. We also ask that you reset your business modem at least 1 time per month, to maintain a steady and consistent connection to the internet. When you reset the modem you will not be taking the phone services down at the same time.
