VPN - Site to Site - Very Slow

Have setup a VPN between main office and a remote office (using Cisco RV130w routers).  I was able to connect to the file server from the workstations.  

When I say slow here is my measure:  we were using desktop remote software (gotomypc specifically) that had speed at least several times faster than the now VPN connection.  Another measure - printing dot matrix labels prints two rows of labels and then pauses for 10-15 seconds before it prints another two rows.

I see that chaning the MTU from the default 1500 to 1492 or 1400 is a suggestion.

Another suggestion was changine the upstream / downstream values.  Not sure what these would be changed to.
