SBS 2011 Essentials & SMC8014

Want to use Remote Web Access to gain access to server running SBS 2011 Essentials. Can't seem to get past the SMC8014.  There is a set-up wizard for routers in SBS but seems to only work with more generic routers (like those with UPnP). Is there a guide that will help me set up this router for Remote Web Access? Do I need a different router?

Sure.

What about my question about replacing Netopia with Netgear router? Will that interface with the SMC8014 correctly?

AmherstNH,

That is good to hear. Do you want me to disabled the firewall on our IPGW?

Thank You

Hello AmherstNH,

Welcome to the forum.

I've checked the status of our IP-Gateway at your site and I notice its firewall is currently enabled.

You can disable it from site or I can do it for you; however, I do have a few questions regarding it.

Do you have an independent firewall (security device) to protect your network or is our IPGW working as one?

Thank You

AmherstNH,

IPGW's firewall and filter (smart packet detection) has been disabled.

Please try to "access" your network.

Regarding your query of: changing to Netgear router, as long as it is configured correctly, it will interface without issue.

Thank You

We have a Netopia 4686-DL router that I believe provides firewall. The Netopia was necessary in handle former configuration - Windows Server 2003 requirements for static IP to allow VPN. Hoping that I can replace the Netopia with a new Netgear wireless router gateway.
