Reverse DNS Help

i have just discovered that my ERP server is having emails rejected/blocked because they are being reported as spam.  our reverse dns apparently needs to point to our email server.  would this make sense?  not my area of expertise so i am looking for help.  emails go out of our ERP system which is reported as our static IP. our IP does not resolve to the email server so is that why things are being blocked?
