Welcome MichaelinSJ. The fully qualified domain would be in the form of or if you are creating the account for the first time in the portal. When initiating a new domain, one that is not currently registered with ICANN, it would be in the format of
When applying changes to the Zone files, you post seems to indicate that you are at the point, the period is required at the end.
If you need assistance with the set-up or registration we can assist.

Thank you John
I already have the domain name. I am trying to use MS Remote Desktop to access "my computer" from another computer outside the LAN. I know there are other RA programs out there, but MS RA works well within my network, and I also have a licensed copy of RAdmin.
If I have my own domain and Comcast is hosting, does the FQDN then become "mycompany.com"?
Additionally, I purchased a static IP address when I had hopes of setting up a MS SBS 2011 server. (My hope ran out!)

MIchaelinSJ. Thank you. As this is a CPE/PC-client side application, this falls beyond the usual gateway configuration and domain registration process. Here is a link from Microsoft with information on RDP. Also it will be necessary to configure some port forwarding rules on your LAN side router. If your PC is directly connected to the Comcast gateway we can assist with the firewall settings inside the Comcast gateway.
