Create an A record?

I use an application that uses my router's external IP address and a port. I then forward the request to an internal server. This works great when I am on the road. I want to be able to use the same address when I am in my office behind the firewall.

My (shallow) understanding is that I have to set up an A record in the zones file?

An A record associates a fully qualified domain name to an IP address. Which would work fine if you wanted to access your server when on the road by going to yourserver.mydomain.com (just an example ). The Comcast Business gateways do not support IP Reflection. What that means is, you will not be able to use the IP of the Comcast Gateway from inside of your lan to access your server. What you will need to do is use the internal IP address of your server when on your network. This is only one option, but not knowing the specifics of your network and your firewall, it is the only option that I can guarantee will work.
