Comcast Outlook Email with Outside Web Hosting

I think I've gotten answers to a few questions from a previous issue.

1. It appears that if you had an existing domain name "yourname.com" you can't transfer the registration to Comcast. Comcast will only register new names. So that means I have to keep the existing registration.

2. To get email I seem to have two choices, one is to change the MX records with my registrar and the second is to redirect the name servers to Comcast.

3. If I redirect the nameservers, the email will be with Comcast but also the web hosting.

Question: What if I want the email to be with Comcast but not the web hosting? Can I do a nameserver redirect with the registrar and then have comcast point to my webhosting provider?

Goal: Gandi.net will remain my registrar with nameservers redirected to Comcast. Comcast will handle email and direct the web hosting to Moonfruit.

Hi ds3182.  For Comcast to only host the email, you need to complete the CNAME verification process and then change the MX records only, on the current registrar.  You do not need to change name servers.  The web hosting will remain with your current provider and the mail route to Comcast.  I will be necessary to create each email address/mailbox on the Business Portal.

If you have mail stored on the servers of the current provider you will have to download it.

Thank You

hi,

I'm in the same boat. I want Comcast to ONLY host email.

Domain verification was successful.

In my registrar (namecheap), does this look right:

Thank you!

Welcome JamesB.  The records are correct.  Additionally you will need the to add the following record:

Hostname:  autodiscover.yourdomain.com     Mailserver Hostname: autodiscover-rd.hmc1.comcast.net.

This record is required for the auto configuration of exchange mailboxes.

Thank You
