Can't connect PCs to new Windows 2012 Esentials server

I have installed a Windows 2012 Essentials Server in our environment and when I try to make PCs part of the domain I get the message "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verifify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."  I suspect this is because my comcast gateway is acting as my DHCP amd DNS Server. Any ideas?

Well, IMHO your suspicion that the Comcast Gateway acting as the DNS server being the root of this issue is, i feel, true. And unfortunately, none of the Comcast gateways allow you to set manual DNS records. So, you will have to disable the DHCP server in the Comcast gateway and configure/enable a DHCP and DNS server on the Windows Server. (During the initial creation of your Active Directory schema, this should have been done automatically, though it isn't always.) Your LAN will then be using the Windows server as the main DHCP and DNS server, and will be able to resolve the domain name properly.
