Arin.net whois Privacy Issues.

Hi,

Can you guys please put in another request with Arin.net to remove my personal information out of their whois database's Comcast keeps disclosing to them.  Not sure who thinks this is a good idea, but this is a major violation of our privacy.   Not only that, but this is the second time I've had to request this in less than a year.   The last time, their database did  get cleaned up but now it's up there again.    I am seriouisly having a hard time believeing that Comcast keeps doing this to their customers.   I realize it's probably a necessary thing that Comcast is required to do, but please stop updating with personal information.

I'm 100% postiive if other Business customers  realized what you are doing here, that more would be complaining about it.    Please remove our company name and  our address from the /29 netblock we have with you.

Thank you,

Darren

Name:  Call Comcast

Handle: Call Comcast

Street: Comcast Customer

City: Call Comcast

State/Provide:  WA

Postal Code: Call Comcast

Country: USA

Or Comcast needs to come up with a number (NOT my account #) that can be used for the Arin info that can be quickly associated to their account info.

The ARIN (and other RIR) SWIP data is an extremely important part of Internet security and anti-abuse efforts.  This is not something Comcast has any say over.  If you are assigned a /29 or larger, having contact information in the SWIP database is part of that responsibilty.  Comcast should have explained that to you (and I know they didn't to me, but it's something I knew about from working at an ISP).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_Whois_Project

What you can do is setup a role account.  abuse@company.example is normal that goes to whoever deals with security.  That way it's not exposting a real human's contact info.  Setup a google voice number for a similar level of protection for the number.  For the name you can put "Abuse Dept" or similar.  You can look at Comcast's registration for one of their own networks here: http://whois.arin.net/rest/net/NET-69-240-0-0-1  They have role accounts for the Abuse and Tech contacts.

-edit- the POC links don't work so well, so here are some direct links:

Abuse POC: http://whois.arin.net/rest/poc/NAPO-ARIN.html

Admin/Tech POC: http://whois.arin.net/rest/poc/IC161-ARIN.html

It's gotta be valid and monitored contact information, but it doesn't have to be a person's name directly.

I understand the reasons why it's important, however, we were NOT given a choice on what information was put up.   Had we been given a choice then yes, we could have had the opportunity to setup an abuse@ account etc and proceeded to enter in all the necessary and important information needed but doing so that it doesn't disclose any personnal information..

None of those links or even the updated ones will work with ARIN with these accounts.   Since Comcast were the ones that initiated this information to them, they are the ones that need to update and correct this information.   This was the first thing that we tried and were told by ARIN that Comcast will need to update this information and we should contact them to resolve this issue.

I appreciate your response MBax, and your points are very valid, however, feel you don't have all the facts on why we were little ticked off @ Comcasst for submitting this personall information to ARIN w/o first discussing this matter with us so that we could have taken the proper steps prior to them violating our privacy.

DarrenW,

Were you ever able to get Comcast to correct your WHOIS-RWS entries?  I am having an awful time finding anyone at Comcast who knows what we're talking about.

Thank you.
