Thinking of switching to residential

I have about another year left in my business contract, but have been tempted by the gigabit speeds available on residential connections. The fact that such a connection will fit my needs for remote work and costs about the same as I'm paying now has me thinking of switching.

I had a few questions though:

- Will I have to wait until the end of my business contract to avoid an ETF if I switch? I'm willing to sign a contract for the remainder of the term.

- Does the switching process require downtime? A few hours is acceptable but if the downtime will be several days it makes it a lot harder.

- If I have more specialized needs down the line, will I be able to switch back? This is unlikely, but I don't want it to be a one-way trip.

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm not looking to switch immediately but want to know what I'd be getting into. Service has been excellent and reliable for many years now.

@SpottedCat Thank you for reaching out on the Xfinity Business Forums tonight. We are happy to hear service has been excellent and reliable for you. Some quick answers to your questions would be:

 

1. Early termination fees would be assessed if canceled before the agreement ended.

2. Switching would require little to no downtime, depending on the situation the getting started kit would quick if not same day with pickup at a local store.

3. There would be no issues in converting back, both residential services and business services are allowed at addresses.

@Comcast_Janelle​ I would be using the same modem I'm using now, as it's my own modem that I purchased, so there'd be no equipment to return or obtain.

So you are saying there's no way to apply the remainder of the contract to residential service? If that's the case it's better to wait until the contract ends. I understand there's a 60 day notice period; would I have to call in and make known my intention to switch to residential, then wait the last two months out too? Or is there a smoother process?

Great question, you would not be able to apply it to residential since they are 2 separate entities. It would be best to wait to avoid any early termination fees. You would need to make your intentions known and we would open a ticket for residential services to have it added to our billing system. Once your agreement is over we can then start residential services for you and you would not be charged early termination fees.
