Recurring daily dropouts, reboot temporarily fixes it, tickets keep closing as resolved — need line/plant evaluation

I'm a technical contact on a small business account and I've run out of road with the regular support line, so I'm trying here.

Short version: the connection drops or slows to unusable at least once a day whether staff are in the office or not. Rebooting the gateway brings it back for a while, and then it happens again. I've watched it happen myself three days running.

Every time I call, I get a brand new ticket, we reboot, service comes back, and the ticket gets closed as resolved. So the account now has several separate tickets that all say "fixed" and nothing in the record shows this is one problem recurring.

What I've already ruled out on my end:

  • All customer equipment was replaced a few months ago. New router/firewall, new switch, new access point. Problem continued unchanged.
  • Speed tests run from the gateway itself are failing or crawling. Speedtests from the comcast business portal also fail. That's upstream of every piece of equipment we own and upstream of wifi.
  • When it's working, download is fine, 350-450. Upload is where it falls apart. Inconsistent, and sometimes the test won't complete at all.
  • A tech came out previously and replaced a loose cable or some other cabling in the ground floor data room of the building. We thought that may have resolved it for a while and then we were right back to it. Staff have often been working from home for the past 45 days or so to avoid these issues.

This seems to me like upstream noise or a ranging problem. But I can't get anyone at Comcast to actually look at line data.

What I'm asking for:

  1. Don't close the current ticket, and link it to the prior ones as repeat trouble at the same location.
  2. Pull and share actual line stats: upstream power, SNR, uncorrectable codewords, T3/T4 timeout counts, and how many upstream channels are bonded right now.
  3. A node and plant review for the area, including the coax riser in this building.
  4. A dispatch, but with a maintenance tech carrying a signal meter and ingress detection. Not a standard install visit. Another gateway swap isn't going to fix this and I'd rather not spend another appointment proving that. Been there, done that.

Happy to provide account details privately. I can also arrange for on site access and make sure to leave it in a failed state so someone can see it live instead of rebooting it first.

Thanks.

@user_daa2bd I am sorry for the issues you have ran in to. Has a technician been back since that last visit?

Not that I am aware of. Thanks for the reply!

So yes,  no tech since that last cable replacement in the ground floor data room or wherever it was outside of our suite, and the problem came right back after it.

To save us a round trip: this has now happened at least once a day for several days, and I've watched it live. Everything in our suite related is brand new. Speed tests run from the gateway itself are failing or crawling, so this is upstream of anything on our side. Download is fine when it's up, around 350-450, but upload is inconsistent and sometimes won't complete at all. A reboot clears it for a little while, but it comes right back. Staff reported when they were in the office on 9/3 they had to reboot 5 times during the workday.

Could you pull the line stats on your end and take a look? Specifically upstream power, SNR, uncorrectable codewords, T3/T4 timeout counts, and how many upstream channels are bonded right now. Given the download-fine / upload-broken pattern and the reboot temporarily fixing it, I'm suspecting upstream noise of some sort.

The bigger thing I'm hoping you can help with: every time we call, it's a new ticket that gets closed as resolved after a reboot, so nothing in the record shows this is one recurring problem. Can you open a single ticket for the recurring issue and keep it open, and get it to maintenance for a line and plant evaluation including the coax riser in the building? I'd want a maintenance tech with a signal meter and ingress detection rather than another gateway swap or tech of that nature.

Happy to share account details privately whenever you need them.
