Porting

We recently moved and ported our numbers over to another carrier. This was two months ago, almost three months, I have now been advised that the number ( my fax number) cannot be ported, because the account is no longer active! this is crazy, since we ported all of our numbers at once.  No can seem to help me. Comcast says my new  priovider has to do it , although the number is still in the pool and the new provider says Comcast wont' speak to them, even though they have my permission and all of the information to do so.  Anyone have a cluse how to get around this merry go round of nonsense?
