VOIP Quality Issues

I'm on a 50/10 connection with a SMCD3G-CCR gateway. Lately the SIP call quality has been horrible. I spent an hour on the phone this morning with my SIP trunk provider (Digium) and after troubleshooting they said the problem was most likely on Comcast's side. Digium said I should ask if Comcast was doing any traffic shaping or running any SIP services that might be interfering.

I believe that the SMC gateway was one of the devices that has a fixed "SIP ALG" option enabled, that causes problems with SIP VoIP service. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is an option to disable it on the gateway.

Can you correlate a drop in call quality with concurrent high bandwidth usage by any other devices on the network? If so, then a router that can prioritize VoIP would be ideal....

I have a pfSense firewall/router between the SMC gateway and my Asterisk server. I've monitored the bandwidth and it has been low while dropouts are occurring. I've also had traffic shaping enabled on the pfSense box to prioritize SIP traffic.

Is there a way I could find out if the SIP ALG option is hardwired on the gateway?
