Some DNS Resolution Failing

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has had the problem where Comcast seems to be filtering DNS requests and causing certain domain names to not resolve. For example, if I try apple.com (using MacOS "host apple.com"), it resolves. If I try something else like "doug.com", it doesn't resolve. Seems to be something with their "security", since it only happens with random domain names. I tried using different DNS servers (like 8.8.8.8, 80.80.80.80, etc), but looks like Comcast intercepts these packets and blocks them...

  Thanks in advance.

Thank you for reaching out to me. I do appreciate your time and patience. My name is Kim, and I am here to help. Do you have any other examples that we can take a look at?

@Comcast_KimberlyL Yes:

emulines.in

admarkpolycoats.com

These are some domain names for mail stuck in our mail server due to this issue. (We are a Business Internet customer).

I appreciate this information. When you state that they are stuck in the mail server, to be clear, it is in the outgoing mail server?

I no longer work for Comcast.

Don't worry about the mail server - that's just how I discovered the issue. If I try to resolve those domains on the command line using: "host emulines.in" of "host admarkpolycoats.com", there is no response. Note that if I route the DNS requests through our backup wireless LTE network, it works fine (which is what I'm doing now). Again, most domains work - it just seems that Comcast is intercepting DNS requests, inspecting the contents, and deciding whether to allow the domain to resolve or not.

I understand completely about the mail service. I'd like to take a much closer look into the tools we have available to assist with the connection concerns.

Could you please send us a private message with your first and last name, and full address for further assistance?

To send a private message, you may need to:

  • Click "Sign In"
  • Click the "direct message" icon
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it

I no longer work for Comcast.

More email evil from Comcast... Comcast intercepting DNS request and filtering them. From a host on my Comcast network, the output of "host -t mx chimtitan.ro": "chimtitan.ro has no MX record". If I run the same on a server on Digital Ocean's network: "chimtitan.ro mail is handled by 0 chimtitan.ro."

Please stop filtering and and scrubbing my DNS requests!!!!
