Remote access to my DS213

I have a Synology DS213 and I am trying to setup remote access to it. I have a Business class account with Comcast using a SMC cable modem. The DS213 is connected to a Cisco E1200 wireless router.
I enabled DMZ on the SMC cable modem to the IP Address on the DS213 and setup port forwarding on the SMC. When I access using my public IP Address I receive the sign on page for my SMC cable modem not access to the DS213.

What am I missing so I can access the DS213 via FTP?

Thank you for looking.

Welcome johnbigbootie.  In the configuration described you will need to connect the DS213 Directly to the SMC or you will need to add forwarding rules to Cisco E1200 in order to access the devices behind it.

Thank You

Thank you Comcast_John.

I was able to configure FTP access when directly connected to the SMC.

Will I need a static IP Address so I can access the DS213 when connected to the Cisco router? If not, what are the steps needed to do this?

When I hook up DS213 to the router its IP Address is a private IP Address such as 192.*.*.*

When the DS213 is connected to the router I would also want users on the network to have access to the DS213.

Thanks again.
